Canoedling in the Lakes

This weekend I am off paddling in the Lake District … AKA Canoeing. Right now the thought of a 5am start on Saturday to get to Glenridding in the Lake District doesn’t fill me with joy. But I know once I arrive in the beautiful Cumbria countryside I will be at peace and I hope enjoy every moment.

For two days I will be canoeing , camping (in a tipi), camp fire cooking and late night trekking with eight people I have never met. I really can’t wait to get back out into the countryside and for one short weekend relive my traveller days that seem oh so long ago.

I know very little about the weekend but think … and hope it will involve learning some new whitewater skills, flatwater skills, safety skills and apparently how to pole, line and track, portage and sail my canoe. Now that can’t be that hard can it?

Last time I was on the water with paddles I just about managed to stay afloat while rafting in Nepal so fingers crossed this is just as ‘easy’.

A massive thank you to Matt Thompson who runs Wilderness Canoe, who offered me this free weekend paddling in the Lakes. My fingers are crossed for perfect sunshine and a swift move from canoeing novice to expert in a few hours.

Canoedling here I come!
