Amazing Things To Do In Glasgow
I love Glasgow. It has a reputation for being a rather boisterous city but mostly by people that have never been. Sure, you get the odd headcase, but surely that’s the same for any major city?
The truth is it is a wonderful place. It’s full of amazing buildings and has a very artistic community. The nightlife is excellent there are more activities than you could shake a proverbial stick at.
Here are my top tips for some amazing things to do in Glasgow.
Visit The Necropolis
If you love spooky old places, then you must check out the Necropolis. It is a Victorian garden just next to Glasgow Cathedral and was built at a time when the Scottish city was recognized as the second city of the empire. It is also home to more than 3,000 graves, and there are rumours it could be haunted if you believe in that sort of thing. Head over to the friends of Necropolis website for more info.
The Glasgow Festival
If you go to Glasgow during the summer months of July and August, you may be lucky enough to get caught up in the Glasgow Festival. It is a wonderful event that lasts several weeks and is full of music, performers and party zones. Be prepared to book early though, because Glasgow hotels tend to bump up the prices during this peak season.
Go To A Distillery
You just can’t go to Glasgow without experiencing a tour of a whisky distillery. You will learn about the techniques of how they make some of the world’s finest spirits and, of course, will be able to have a wee dram at the end of the tour. Although whisky is often thought to be more of a male drink, you shouldn’t let this put you off. Some of it tastes divine when made correctly, and a whisky tour should be on your bucket list, whatever your gender!
Activity Day
The more sporty of you may take more of an interest in an activity day rather than traipsing around museums. If so, there is more than you could wish for here. Try the Eden Leisure Village for some off-road go-karting in lush scenery. Or you could try something different like heading out for some fishing at the Hogganfield Loch, or head up the road to the mountains to go skiing. There is so many sporty and outdoors activities to do in Glasgow that you will never be short of ideas.
Go To The Sub Club
The Sub Club is a Glasgow institution and a destination for serious clubbers from all over the world. The atmosphere is electric and the resident DJs really know how to work the crowd into a lather. If you are looking for a glam night out, then other venues are probably more suitable, but for pure hedonism and music, the Sub Club cannot be beaten. Check the upcoming lineups and find out more about this wonderful club over at the official Sub Club website.
Hopefully, these tips will give you a nice idea of what is on offer in Glasgow. Enjoy your trip!
