and we will walk 100,000 miles… #RoamforChange

If you missed my last blog about my quest to get the Nicest Job in Britain then here is a quick recap and an update on what has been happening so far…

I have been tasked by Nicest Job to raise as much money and awareness as possible for Toybox charity in just over a week. I have only 4 days left, with a deadline of this Sunday 2nd October.

It has been a crazy busy few days but I have loved every second. I have been on radio twice, on Spire Radio and BBC Lincolnshire, I’ve already raised hundreds of pounds, I’ve been roaming every day and I’ve been planning the BIG day… well night on Saturday for my final hurrah!

A huge HUGE thank you to everyone who has supported me thus far. I have been absolutely blown away by the support from family, friends, students I just met and different businesses. People are most definitely inherently NICE so any one of the people who have supported me could be right for the job I am applying for.

See more about my roaming on day one in the little video below:

Here are a few ways you could get involved or help out.

The Overnight Walk

On Saturday 1st October (this Saturday) I will be walking from 8.30pm – 4am to raise money and awareness for street children around the world. Over the week I am aiming to get over 100,000 steps in (about 50 miles), most of which will be on the Saturday evening/Sunday night. I am already over 30,000 so I am roaming well. I have a friend and some students from Bishop Grosseteste University joining me so far and anyone is welcome.

Details

Meeting place: 8.30pm outside the front of Lincoln Cathedral
The Plan: We have no set plan other than to roam. Street children often have to roam through the night staying away from danger as it is too dangerous to sleep, they often don’t have a plan so neither to we. The only plan is to keep moving (most of the time). We are hoping to be able to raise money through buckets but I am still awaiting permission, so fingers crossed.
What to bring: Make sure you are wearing warm comfy clothes and shoes. Bring some snacks and water to keep you sustained over the walk. A torch if you have one, though we will be providing some too. We will also provide high-vis vests, though if anyone has a spare then bring it along, if we get lots of people we may not have enough.
Sponsorship: Joining the event is free, but if you are able to raise any money in advance that would be incredible, either bring the cash on the night (we can keep safe before we set off) or get people to donate online here. You can even set up your own page linked to the challenge if you wish?

EVERYONE is welcome, you can just turn up on the night or drop me an email in advance and then I can make sure I have a survival/goody bag ready for you. If you don’t want to walk the whole night that is fine, just join us for what you can.

I am soo grateful for everyone who has donated a prize. We have three awesome prizes up for grabs for anyone who donates to the fund.

Money Can’t Buy Opportunity from Givergy

This auction prize I am super excited about. Givergy are a site that promote money can’t buy opportunities where all the money goes to charity. I have managed to get the mother of all money can’t buy opportunities.

The Lake House, Hill Holt Wood

The Lake House, Hill Holt WoodThe Lake House, Hill Holt Wood

A stay for two in a beautiful off-grid boat house with a guided tour of the woods, dinner and breakfast included. This house has been featured on Grand Designs and I can attest is one of the most calming beautiful places you will find, just on the edge of Lincolnshire.

You can put in a bid here and the highest bid on Sunday evening will win the prize. Again every penny goes to Toybox.

Help Promote us

If you are able to share my campaign on your blog, in a paper, on the radio… anywhere it would be HUGELY appreciated.

You can listen to our full interview on Spire Radio, where we have a bit of a laugh with Onicko and see some behind the scenes fun below. 🙂

MASSIVE thanks again to everyone involved so far. Please donate every step I walk this week is for street children around the world.
