Luxury Glamping in Dartmoor National Park – room with a view

If you’re looking for somewhere unique to stay in Dartmoor, then Room With View is the best luxury glamping in Dartmoor National Park. It’s so luxurious I would question as to whether it is even glamping. You certainly don’t go without anything.

A unique wooden home right in the middle of the national park, complete with your own private walled garden, kitchen, log fire and en suite bathroom. It was pure bliss!

I was gifted a 3 night stay by Unique Hideaways at ‘Room with a View’ while on my ‘Walk in the Parks‘ As always all opinions are my own and true.

Luxury Glamping in Dartmoor National Park

Dartmoor National Park is one of the only places in England that you can actually wild camp. I did do a night of wild camping in Dartmoor, but first I had three nights in the absolutely incredible ‘Room with a View’.

Read on to learn more about why this is a perfect place to stay in Dartmoor.

What ‘Room with a View’ is like in Dartmoor National Park

Room with a View is on the edge of a farm down a private track right in the middle of Dartmoor National Park. It had everything I needed for a few days of relaxing and was such a gorgeous base, I didn’t want to leave.

The log cabin is set in its own walled garden down a track away from the main house, so you have complete privacy. There was a picnic bench and firepit in the garden for late night log fires.

The cabin had a veranda at the front with a table and chairs and inside was a big studio room with an en suite bathroom.

There was a log fire, complete with everything you need to light it. A large double bed, wardrobe area, sofa and bean bags. The cabin also had a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, large hob, sink and all the pots and pans you needed.

They had wifi, though it wasn’t always the fastest or most reliable. I enjoyed some time semi off grid which was just what I needed to truly relax.

My partner’s parents had come to support me just before and taken me shopping and it felt special to cook after eating in pubs for most of the 7 weeks previously. The kitchen was fully equipped and they even left a little welcome box with local treats and drinks.

The cabin felt luxurious and super cosy. There was a surprising warm streak while I was staying in October, but the fire kept me cosy at night. My mum came to help and visit me on the last night and too and we had dinner al fresco, watching the sun set. A beautiful October evening.

The cabin included some books and games and there was even a copy of the book ‘A Room with A View‘ on the bedside table, which I started to read. I will need to stay again to finish the book.

And yes the cabin does come with a view! It has an incredible view of Haytor, the most famous rocks in Dartmoor.

The cabin is also dog friendly. I had Cookie with me, who enjoyed her days of rest there too. The garden was secure, which meant I could let her relax without having to worry. However, you do need to keep an eye on your dog as it is a working farm.

Where to visit near Room with a View

As I was of course on my big 1000 mile hike, I walked to and from the cabin, however for more ‘normal’ holidays I would recommend driving, as it really is kind of in the middle of nowhere. However, there are still places you can walk to (or drive) that aren’t too far away that are worth visiting.

  1. Haytor Rocks – you can see Haytor from the window and can walk there from the cabin. It is a magnificent collection of granite tors that you can climb up. Confidence and skill with decide how high you can go
  2. Widecombe in the Moor is a super cute village just a couple of miles down the hill from ‘A Room with a View’ There is an amazing cafe there called ‘Cafe on the Green‘ which has a surprisingly interesting menu that you might expect in a city, rather than a small village in the countryside. I went back 3 times!
  3. Hound Tor Medieval Village ruins – A bit further away you will find the remains of a 13th century village, you can see a great view of the remains from the top of Greater Tor
  4. Buckfast Abbey – a bit of a drive, but worth it to see this home to a community of Roman Catholic Benedictine Monks. There is a restaurant and shops, and if you’re lucky you might hear the choir practicing in the abbey
  5. Plenty of walks! – There are of course so many hikes across Dartmoor. Here is the hike I did across Dartmoor national park.

So if you’re visiting Dartmoor I hugely recommend the luxury glamping at Room with a View. Prices start from £85 a night which I think is really reasonable. I think I look quite at home there.
