Dreaming of Dubai – Why you should visit

Dubai is a place of extremes, a place of extravagance, a place of luxury. In Dubai bigger is better, more gold is more glamorous and whatever the time of year the sun almost always shines!

If you are looking for an easy short break in the sunshine then Dubai is your answer. Especially if it is winter sun you are looking for. Dubai in the summer is often too hot to sunbathe at a balmy 40+degrees, but in their winter months it is a perfect 25 degrees and rarely get colder.

If you are thinking of visiting Dubai, here are a few reasons why you should visit:

Luxury hotels at reasonable prices

There are loads of fancy hotels in Dubai, from the exquisite 6* Burj al Arab to much more affordable Hilton hotels of every variety. When I was in Dubai I stayed in a Hilton and got upgraded to a fantastic suite. Most of the hotels have multiple swimming pools and are situated on one of the many white sandy beaches. The breakfast choice was immense and filled us up until we just had to have an afternoon snack at one of the beach side bars and maybe a cocktail or two.

Though the cost of staying in the Burj al Arab is through the roof (talking thousands per night) I recommend visiting the cocktail bar on the top floor. There is a minimum spend, but the views are amazing and well, everyone needs a spot of real luxury every once in a while.

The restaurants

The choice of food is much better than I expected. They have everything from local Middle Eastern cuisine to delicious steak houses and tasty Italian. I was in Dubai over Valentines and headed to a yummy steak restaurant with every type of cut of meat you could imagine. Mmm. You can’t drink alcohol in the restaurants, only in the hotels, but this means you bill is a lot lower than you might expect and leaves you with calories for pudding! 🙂

The water parks

If you are looking for fun in the sun then Dubai’s water parks are your answer. Bigger, better and more extreme than any other water parks I have been to. Aquaventure at the Atlantis Palm resort is immense. Go and bring out your inner child!

The shopping

You can’t talk about Dubai and not mention shopping. The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world and has everything your shopping or eating heart desires. I think I might have enjoyed the food hall more than the shopping. If you aren’t a shopping fan then there is still plenty to do from climbing walls to an all year round ice skating rink… yes it can be 40 degrees outside and you could be ice skating. Dubai is a surreal place.

So if its luxury, perfect beaches and delicious food you are after then Dubai is the place to be.
